Printed & Internet Resources for the Great White Fleet

Books in Print

John C. Reilly and Robert L. Scheina, American Battleships 1886-1923: Predreadnought Design and Construction (Annapolis: Naval Institute Press, 1980).

Books Out of Print Listing Officers and Sailors

Register of the Commissioned and Warrant Officers of the United States Navy and Marine Corps.

This may be in individual year books as 1908, 1909 and 1910 exist.

Men On Board Ships of the Atlantic Fleet Bound for the Pacific, December 16, 1907, with Home Addresses in the United States (Washington: GPO, 1908).

This book lists the men of the ships but is rather difficult to use. They are arranged by state and then the men are listed alphabetically by hometowns and then alphabetically by sailors. This is the book you need to locate if you are researching a sailor's participation in the Great White Fleet.

I wish to thank Admiral James Reckner for these three references. The book by Reilly and Scheina should be available at the Naval Institute Press. The latter two books are probably available as reference in the Library of Congress or at Annapolis; please check with your local libraries.
