Carol Fletcher's Bio

[Carol Fletcher]

Carol Fletcher (née Comar) was born in Toronto, Ontario. She was raised on or near a variety of Royal Canadian Air Force Stations in Ontario, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. On completion of a 'commerce' education, she worked for the Ministry of Transport and later transferred to the Department of National Defence. While working as the Base Administration Officer's secretary at Canadian Forces Base Summerside, she married Dave Fletcher, then a young flight lieutenant. She followed him through 18 addresses over the next 30 years, raised two sons, Michael and Malcolm, and was active in wives' groups and with the Royal Canadian Air Cadets. In 1987, she was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant on the Cadet Instructors' List. After promotion to lieutenant, she established a cadet flight at Canadian Forces Station Holberg, where her husband was the commanding officer. With a posting overseas, she had more than enough to keep her busy and, with no cadet organizations to support, she transferred to the Supplementary Reserve. She established "DCF Flying Books" to publish "HARVARD! The North American Trainers in Canada" and is president of that division of DCF Flying Enterprise. Mrs Fletcher's hobbies include a number of needlecraft varieties, particularly cross-stitch and hardanger, and she has been active on the Comox Valley Fall Fair Committee. With her husband, she shares a passion for travel, Samoyeds and Mercedes-Benz and she accepts the concept of an aeroplane as a 'second car'. She recently qualified as a St.John Ambulance Therapy Dog handler and now shares that volunteer work with her husband.
