Of our two Samoyeds,
Samara, is the seventh in an unbroken line going back nearly half a century and Bucca is number nine (we briefly adopted Casper - number eight - in her declining months); neither dog is shown or placed in similar competitions and we have no pretensions of becoming breeders. Samoyeds are ideal pets, being friendly and gentle by nature - that's why we have had that unbroken line of Sams!
Samara excels at being a Therapy Dog and surpassed 500 visits to seniors and the infirm in June, 2008.
'Major' was acquired at the age of eight weeks in 1956 and lived until
'Tanya' (Du-Bi-Nor's Tonya) came along in 1969. She lived until 1982 and
there was a three-week gap before
'Duchess' (Polobar's Peppermint Patty)
arrived on the scene. Unfortunately, she died at the age of five and that
is when we got into Samoyed Rescue. Fourteen-month-old
'Scoobie' (you
can't pick a new name if he already has it memorized!) was obtained from
the Etobicoke Dog Pound, near Toronto, and he got to see the World.
His biography is well worth reading! In his 12 years with us, Scoobie lived
in three different provinces and three different countries.
Although he was greatly missed when he passed away in 1998,
'Kara'' had already arrived on the scene.
She wasn't too happy being an only dog and was delighted when
'Sunshine' moved in.
Sunshine stayed as the 'junior dog' until we adopted
Samara. Sunshine succumbed to cancer in January, 2003, just after her sixth birthday.
Kara became a most successful St.John Ambulance Therapy Dog; alas, she was snatched from us in June, 2003, by "GDV" while too far from veterinary help to be saved.
