Astrological Bibliography

Stephen Arroyo

One of the most insightful founders of the Humanistic and counseling astrological community. All his works are inspiring classics which are accessible to beginners but still have plenty to offer even to established astrologers.

Demetra George

An internationally known astrologer in the area of mythic and archetypal astrology and feminine spirituality, brings her deep insights to the subtle and relational meanings of the asteroids; Ceres, Pallas, Vesta, and Juno.

Liz Greene

A pioneer in contemporary humanistic astrology and perhaps the world's foremost Jungian psychotherapist cum astrologer who has enriched the field of astrology through a depth psychological approach, Liz Greene brings both her vision and clinical experience to her extensive teaching and writing which is both profound and accessible to the astrological student. Astrology for Lovers, a book for general readership, elevates entertaining sun sign astrology to the level of profound personal mythology.

Seminars in psychological astrology, five volumes, Weiser

Robert Hand

Sometimes referred to as the "Dean of American astrologers," Robert Hand is perhaps the foremost and most psychologically competent writer of the so-called "cook books" listed below which have endless insights to offer astrologers of all levels. Horoscope Symbols is not a cookbook but a superb introduction for the serious student. Hand has also been involved with other branches in addition to psychological astrology, has been a pioneer in the field of computer astrologer, and is now heading up a program of preserving and translating old classical texts in astrology called Project Hindsight.

Charles Harvey

Renowned English astrological teacher, writer and specialist in midpoints and harmonics, co-director with Liz Greene of the Centre for Psychological Astrology. Author and co-author of several important books and articles, some of which are listed below.

Charles Harvey and Suzi Harvey

Suzi Harvey, nine year editor of the Astrological Journal, astrological writer, teacher and psychotherapist produced a popular, informative and enriching synthesis of sun and moon signs in combination, along with her partner Charles Harvey, renowned English astrological writer, teacher, and long-term president of the British Astrological Association.

Charles Harvey and Michael Harding

Charles Harvey teams up with existential psychotherapist and astrologer Michael Harding to produce this insightful and informative treatment of harmonics and midpoints for the intermediate and advanced student.

Richard Idemon ~ see above Seminars in Psychological Astrology

With his enlivening teaching style, the late Richard Idemon brings his rich, Jungian and mythic understanding to bear upon the chart symbols in a way that is particularly resonant with the approaches of Greene and the late Howard Sasportas.

Tracy Marks

Extremely popular writer in the best sense of the term. An accessible, clearly organized and right-to-the-point, self help approach to various essential topics. Ideal for the beginner and intermediate student who wishes guidance in a "hands on"sort of way.

Glenn Perry

Founder and editor of the uniquely important Astro-Therapy Newsletter (later, the Journal of Astro-Psychology ~ now discontinuued), Perry is both a psychotherapist and an astrologer. From a generally psychoanalytic and object-relations perspective, his astrological writings are firmly grounded in clinical case studies and combined with a profound and broad philosophical understanding of the nature and place of astrology in these times of deep paradigmatic change.

Dane Rudhyar

Artist, composer, visionary, thinker and astrologer, Dane Rudhyar is THE pioneer and seminal thinker of contemporary humanistic or psychological astrology, to whom we all owe a profound debt. Of his numerous works, I have selected a few which I feel are especially relevant for the serious astrological student.

Howard Sasportas

In addition to the Greene/Sasportas seminars listed above, astrological teacher and writer and co-founder with Liz Greene of the Centre for Psychological Astrology, the late Howard Sasportas has produced these two invaluable books accessible for beginning and more advanced readers.

Erin Sullivan

Editor of the most important Penguin Arkana series, Erin Sullivan, renowned expert in mythic and Jungian astrology, deepens and expands our astrological knowledge through her several fine works.

Richard Tarnas

Author of the non-astrological Passion of the Western Mind, academically acclaimed by many as the most insightful and eloquent account of Western intellectual history to date, this historian of ideas, psychologist, and philosopher is also an astrologer of the first rank. Professor at the California Institute of Integral Studies, Richard Tarnas, along with the eminent transpersonal psychologist Stanislav Grof, teaches the first graduate course at an accredited academic institution connecting astrology and serious transpersonal psychology. His forthcoming Cosmos and Psyche, which grows out of this course, his historical scholarship, and his clinical work with Grof, will be a major contribution to establishing the bridge between serious new paradigm thought and astrology.
