I found this truck in late '94 and couldn't pass it up. With 60,000 miles showing it seemed like an original that'd had many years of loving care, then a few years of neglect. A few sideswipes, a poor backyard tremclad paint job, wrong motor, bad brakes, steering and shocks, and oversize wheels and tires, along with many small functional problems like gauges, horn and wipers not working, made it no longer very useable, but the body was solid and all the sheet metal was original with very little rust or filler to be found.
The money and time available went into functional things the summers of '95 and'96, and it was driven a bit in '96. The summer of '97 saw a clean used 283 installed and front body work started. Lack of cash kept progress slow, but the following two summers got it to the point of deserving paint, which finally happened early 2000. Feb, 2001 saw the 283 completely rebuilt, with a .030 overbore, and it's now my daily driver.

A 98% rust free truck to start, the body has been totally gone over, and rusty bits replaced with new metal. White from the factory, then blue, then red, then lite gray, and finally battleship gray, it now sports an original style two tone paint job in Cardinal Red and Bombay Ivory.

The inside got a major clean-up, including filling dash holes, a bit of paint where necessary, and replacing the broken seat with a re-upholstered one from a parts truck. Not exactly factory, but then this was a resurrection, not a restoration!

Originally a 235 w/ 4-speed, it now has the optional 283 - one of the best motor designs ever - along with a full syncro 3-speed. The rest of the truck (except for the alternator), is original equipment. Beautiful driver, and with factory overloads, a real hauler. |
