This 1957 panel was ordered new by MacMillan Bloedel for ambulance duty on Vancouver Island. Delivered in early 1958, it's been on the Island ever since - except for a short stretch near Powell River just across the strait. I found it in 1990, with door skins flapping and headlites rotted out. It looked terrible, but with under 50,000 miles on it, the mechanicals had a long way to go before retirement.

Body redone, fenders and doors changed, and a new color, along with a brake job and tune-up, and the bounce was back in this old boys step. Another 25,000 miles later there's still been no mechanical work needed beyond the usual routine brake adjusts and oil changes. Just can't beat a good 235 six!

A solid half-ton truck, this panel regularly hauls up to 1,500 lbs of fine Cider Press juice without any complaint and hums on the highway at 55-60 mph all day long . And ya gotta love the looks. Fine art.

Well, that was then - this is now!
The frame had suffered too much from being in the rain forest
on this Pacific island for 40 some years - see the project page for the gory details!
