Established in 1983, the Cider Press has evolved into a valuable contribution to the food self-sufficiency of the Comox Valley and the wider Central Vancouver Island community.  Every fall hundreds of folks who have access to locally grown apples and pears are able to have that seasonal bounty preserved by having us process the fruit into delicious natural juice. In addition we process fruit we obtain into pasteurized, bottled juice and excellent apple cider vinegar for sale in the valley all year.  Cranberries can also be juiced when supplies are available.

Work hard every day from Labor Day to Christmas, do whatever you prefer the rest of the year!  Production is limited by your initiative.  Operation requires a minimum of two people full time for the 3 peak months of Sept. to Nov., with part time helpers during the custom pressing days.  Vinegar is dealt with in the "off-season".

Like any food harvest activity, the work is labor intensive, requiring good stamina and strength - a busy year can see a quarter million pounds of fruit processed, all requiring hand movement repeatedly!  In addition, we harvest apples from a number of "neglected" trees around the Valley, which can be a relaxing outdoor activity in good weather, or a miserable chore in a wet fall.  The property also includes a small greenhouse, and garden spaces, as well as sheltered work areas for other activities.

Browse the Cider Press website for an understanding of what we do, and an idea of the lifestyle you could have - don't miss the squeezes other interests, old trucks, and buses, and food waste composting.
